Role of an NGO

We have a number of uneducated people in our society. How do we educate them? There is a need to first educate people on the importance of education. This must be carried out by professionals, because they will obviously know how to convince. The governments are too busy, talking about developments and plans. They obviously can’t take up the task of convincing people, because they have to attend to many jobs. There is a need for common man to step in to convince and educate people. This is where a NGO steps in. They are Non Government Organizations set up by individuals who dream to serve the country and thus the world. They strive to achieve their goals, with little or no help from governments. But these days the governments have understood, the importance of NGO’s in creating a peaceful society. There are different types of NGO’s which are charitable ngo’s, participatory ngo’s, community based ngo’s and international ngo’s. This classification is provided by WHO. The ultimate aim of educational ngo’s is to empower the people with wisdom which will make them take correct decisions in life. It is to teach them about health, basic amenities, women empowerment, family planning programs and so on. Education is just not about learning the alphabet, but striving to implement the wisdom gained from it in our lives. This is what the NGO’s also try to implement!

Alternative education

Education has transcended a lot of borders. It is an age old notion that education meant going to schools and learning mathematics, or science or so on. Non traditional education or alternative education is fast catching up. This form of education concentrates on other subjects like philosophy, religion, sociology. The subjects which were considered as secondary subjects in the main stream schools are given importance here. Different forms of alternative education are charter schools, independent schools, alterative schools and residential based education. This form of education concentrates more on the student teacher relationship and has good student teacher ratio Alternative schools have their own curriculum and methods which are different from the traditional format. Residential based education is the one where tutors are brought home to educate the student. This education concentrates on providing in depth knowledge of a subject. The charter schools concentrate on performing arts, thus they provide students a chance to grow in different domains. Independent schools have more independent way of selecting staff, and they include Krishnamurthy schools, Montessori schools and so on. This form of education is prevalent in a number of countries, and is becoming a rage among students. This gives students an excellent opportunity for overall development, thus making them highly competitive. I believe alternative education is a must try!

An Educational Revolution

One day, I was thinking what could free us from the wars, poverty, corruption, hatred, economic recession, violence and so on. What could be the one weapon to make this earth a better place for all of us? I wondered if money could bring the change, but money brings greed along with it. I wondered if power, could change the face of earth but unfortunately power brings pride. I couldn’t zero on anything which would guide the human race to their dreams, the dream to live a peaceful life. As I sat thinking, I heard a young girl chatting with her mom. She was talking about her day in school, and how her teacher told that education will give her the wisdom to make the correct decisions. The word that education will empower man, made me sit up. That’s when it struck me education is the weapon that we all need. It is the torch, whose fire can burn all the evils. Thus this inspired me to take up a blog on this issue. This blog will discuss on the current trends of education, what is the role played by parents and teachers, students’ interests, how to make education cost effective and so on. This blog is meant to spread awareness on why education is important to all, on what has to be done to create an EDUCATIONAL REVOLUTION! A student inspired me to take up the cause and hope this blog inspires lot more people.
